Maddalena Piazza

is a multimedia artist

based in Chicago, Illinois. In My Gut Feelings is an ethereal space being made visible and tangible through painting, textiles, printing and adornments. As a SWANA (South West Asian and North African) and Sicilian queer woman, her artwork aims to encompass the variety of what it's like to be in the diaspora and the richness of her cultures. Through vivid colors, the fem figure and motifs she creates vibrant pieces to illustrate these identities.

Currently working towards a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she is experimenting with cross media, large scale works, and  exploring queerness and femininity through personal and shared narratives. By drawing inspiration from her heritages she blends traditional techniques, like Palestinian tatreez and Mediterranean symbology, with contemporary art making.

Her work has been featured in exhibitions such as "Dimensions" and “Sewn Threads, Cut Threads’ at the SWANA Rose Culture and Community Center,  “Horses Loved” at Goodbye Horses in Portland, Oregon, “Art Bash” at SAIC and “Hearth” at Riverside Arts Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Original Works, Prints, and 1 of 1 textile and jewelry pieces are available. Please inquire for commissions or installations at inmygutfeelings@gmail.com or DM on instagram.
